A guide to the stages of the Tour de France 2026.
This is an overview map of the 2026 Tour de France route.
Stage 1 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 19.6km Team Time Trial starting and finishing in Barcelona.
The stage finishes with two climbs near the Olympic Stadium - the Côte de Montjuïc and the Côte du Stade Olympique.

Stage 2 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 168.5km road race from Tarragona to Barcelona.
The first half is on the flat coast road, and takes in coastal towns including Sitges. The second half is hilly, starting with the Côte de Begues.
The stage finishes with three laps of a hilly finishing circuit near the Olympic Stadium, featuring the Côte du Château de Montjuïc.

Stage 3 of the Tour de France 2026 starts in Granollers, north east of Barcelona.
The 195.6km parcours takes the riders over the Col de Toses at La Molina then enters France.
Back in the race's home country there's a climb of the Col du Calvaire before a summit finish at Les Angles.
This could be one for a breakaway.

Stage 4 of the 2026 Tour de France is a 181.9km hilly stage from Carcassonne to Foix.
The climbs include the Col de Coudons and the Col de Montségur.
The Montségur climb is crested 35km from the finish, and the leading group at the point is likely to contest the stage win.

Stage 5 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 158.3km flat stage from Lannemezan to Pau.
Tour stages to Pau usually end in bunch sprints. Stage 5 is unusually late in the race for the first sprint stage.

Stage 6 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 186.2km mountain stage from Pau to Gavarnie-Gèdre.
It includes two of the classic Pyrenean climbs, the Col d'Aspin and the Col du Tourmalet.
The final climb to Gavarnie-Gèdre is 18.7km at an average 3.7% - so long rather than steep.

Stage 7 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 175.1km flat stage from Hagetmau through the forests of Les Landes to Bordeaux.
Jasper Philipsen won in Bordeaux in 2023 and will be looking to repeat the trick, but could be trumped by Tim Merlier.

Stage 8 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 180.4km flat stage from Périgueux to Bergerac, which is a very similar parcours to Stage 10 of the 2017 Tour.
Fascinating and picturesque places on the route include the Lascaux Caves and La Roque Gageac.
Marcel Kittel won the equivalent stage in 2017, and this should be another bunch sprint.

Stage 9 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 185.5km hilly stage from Malemort to Ussel.
The steep Suc au May climb features 80km before the finish, but there are other tricky climbs too.
The race organisers expect the winner to come from a breakaway.

Stage 10 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 166.6km mountain stage from Aurillac to Le Lioran.
The finale includes the Puy Mary-Pas de Peyrol and the Col de Pertus.
Le Lioran hosted the finishes of stages in 2016 and 2024, and both of
them were crackers.

Stage 11 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 161.3km flat stage from Vichy to Nevers.
It goes through Moulins, a town associated with Coco Chanel, and finishes in Nevers, associated with Julius Caesar.
The two Category 4 climbs on the parcours won't be nearly enough to prevent a bunch sprint.

Stage 12 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 179.1km flat stage from Nevers Magny-Cours to Chalon-sur-Saône.
This is almost certainly a sprint stage.
A 270° turn with 1.5km will be key to positioning on the final riverside straight of Quai Saint-Cosme.

Stage 13 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 205.8km hilly stage from Dole to Belfort. It includes a climb of the Ballon d'Alsace.
It's the only stage in this year's race of more than 200km.
The winner will probably come from a breakaway, and might be a sprinter-who-can-climb.

Stage 14 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 155.3km mountain stage from Mulhouse to Le Markstein, where Stage 20 of the 2023 Tour finished.
Climbs include the Grand Ballon, the Ballon d'Alsace and the Col du Haag.
The Col du Haag is long and steep, but on the most amazing bike path through the woods.
This should be one of the most entertaining stages, with barely a lull in the action.

Stage 15 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 183.9km mountain stage from Champagnole to Plateau de Solaison.
There are two main climbs - Mont Salève, and the final climb to Solaison. Both feature sustained steep gradients.
This is expected to be a GC day - Pogacar vs Vingegaard vs whoever else is in contention, perhaps Lipowitz.

Stage 16 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 26.1km individual time trial from Evian-les-Bains to Thonon-les-Bains. It is a third uphill, a third downhill, and third flat.
If Remco Evenepoel is on form, he will be the favourite.

Stage 17 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 174.7km flat stage from Chambéry to Voiron.
It includes modest climbs in the Bauges and the Chartreuse, but should still end in a sprint.
The Chartreuse distillery is in Voiron, and today's winner might celebrate with a sip of the interesting yellow or green liquids it produces.

Stage 18 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 185.2km mountain stage from Voiron to Orcières-Merlette.
Orcières-Merlette is known as the place where Luis Ocana defeated Eddy Merckx by a big margin in 1971.
Primoz Roglic won here on Stage 4 of the Tour de France 2020. In 2026, it could be a day for the breakaway, with a GC battle behind.

Stage 19 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 127.9km mountain stage from Gap to Alpe d'Huez.
The ascent to Alpe d'Huez is the classic route from Bourg d'Oisans: 21 hairpins and 13.8km.
The race organisers think someone might go for a long-range attempt to win today's stage.

Stage 20 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 170.9km mountain stage from Le Bourg d'Oisans to Alpe d'Huez.
Climbs on the stage are the Col de la Croix de Fer, the Cols du Télégraphe and Galibier, and the Col de Sarenne.

Stage 21 of the Tour de France 2026 is a 133km flat stage from Thoiry to Paris.
It will include a Champs-Elysées circuit (Circuit 1) and a Butte de Montmartre plus Champs-Elysées circuit (Circuit 2).
The race organisers think they have found a compromise that gives both puncheurs and sprinters a chance.

The main contenders for the General Classification of the 2026 Tour de France include Vingegaard and Pogacar, but who else can hope for an overall win?
Paul Seixas is an up-and-coming Decathlon rider participating in his first Tour de France.
Oscar Onley is out of the 2026 Tour de France with a shoulder injury sustained at the Tour Auvergne Rhône-Alpes. His teammate Kévin Vauquelin will probably be aiming for a good overall placing, as will Thymen Arensman.
Juan Mywayuso or the Highwayuso is Lidl-Trek's main GC hope, supported by Giulio Ciccone, Mathias Vacek and Mattias Skjelmose.
Cian Uijtdebroeks leads the Movistar team together with Einer Rubio.
Tom Pidcock of Q36.5 could make a GC challenge.
On the Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe team, the co-leaders are Florian Lipowitz and Remco Evenepoel.
Lipowitz seems the better bet for a GC challenge.
Although Remco has won a Grand Tour (the 2022 Vuelta), he can't always match the very best on difficult climbs, and he often seems to have a bad day. Time-trialling remains his best discipline.
Pogacar's teammate Isaac del Toro will be helping his team leader, but could still secure a high overall placing, and if something happens to the Slovenian he would likely become UAE's leader.
Similarly, Visma's Plans B and C could be Davide Piganzoli and Sepp Kuss.
